How You Can Relieve Neck Pain At Home

18.02.2022

Neck pain is a common condition people experience for different reasons such as bad posture, muscle strain, herniated disc, or a car accident. Whichever the reason is, severe neck pain reduces your mobility and can make even the easiest tasks seem hard. When you experience this kind of discomfort, the right thing to do is to visit a chiropractor. With proper manipulations, a chiropractor can relieve your pain, and they can also teach you how to ease the symptoms at home!

At Goshorn Chiropractic and Wellness, we made a list of some safe strategies you can do at home to relieve (and avoid!) neck pain:

  1. Practice neck exercises: if you let your neck remain in the same position for too long, like when you are at the computer, your muscles can tighten up and lead to neck pain. You should move your neck every often to avoid tension. You'll need to do gentle side-to-side neck stretches to alleviate stiffness; you can also try vertical and circular movements to relax the muscle even more. Please be careful when you do these exercises and ensure you don't overexert yourself.

  2. Improve your posture: poor posture often leads to neck pain and increased risk of injury. The most common reason people have bad posture these days is how people sit when they use phones, computers, and electronic devices. Learning about posture correcting techniques and remaining conscious about your posture in your daily activities can significantly decrease the chance of suffering neck pain. Set alarms during the day to remind you to have a good posture.

  3. Choose an ergonomic pillow: feather-filled pillows often provide little support and lead to stiff necks. There are many ergonomic pillows to choose from in the market. Think about how many hours you sleep with your neck in the wrong position. Your chiropractor can recommend a specific pillow that suits your needs and provide better support to your neck.

  4. Use a cold compress: Using ice packs in your neck can help relieve the pain you are experiencing. Cold compresses are good to avoid inflammation and soreness and help you gain mobility back. If you don't have an ice pack at home, you can apply ice wrapped in a towel to the affected area.

Following this advice can help you ease and avoid your discomfort easily. If you are experiencing severe neck pain, the best thing to do is visit a chiropractic office.
